Director E. Dale Abel receives first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

FOEDRC Director, E. Dale Abel, MD, PhD was among the first wave of clinicians to recieve his first of two doses of the Pfizer and BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on December 14, 2020.

As of December 22, 1,583 University of Iowa employees have recieved the first COVID-19 vaccine dose with plenty more being distributed in the next few weeks.

Abel described the moment as monumental, explaining that he felt incredibly privledged to have been one of the early individuals to get the dose.

Healio spoke with Abel about his experience recieving the vaccination, the symptoms he displayed and the need for more education to battle vaccine hesitancy, especially among underrepresented communities.
