FOEDRC member Ayotunde Dokun, MD, PhD previously served on the National Clinical Care Commission. This commission was convened by the US Congress and tasked with making recommendations regarding federal programs that impact diabetes and its complications.
The last federal commission on diabetes was issued in 1975. Since then, the diabetes epidemic has grown, affecting more individuals and families, and in turn, contributing to greater health care costs. The 2021 National Clinical Care Commission Report provides recommendations to leverage federal programs to help prevent type 2 diabetes. These recommendations address diabetes prevention and control in the general population, diabetes prevention in populations that are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and treatment of diabetes and its complications.
